Snail is a common name for almost all members of
the molluscan class Gastropoda that have coiled shells in the adult stage. When the
word is used in a general sense, it includes sea snails, land snails and freshwater snails. A land
snail is any of the many species of snail that
live on land, as opposed to those that live in salt water and fresh water. Land snails are terrestrial gastropod mollusks that
have shells.(those without
shells are known as slugs)-http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snail
